Jim TerKeurst
Director
Dr James TerKeurst began his career in media production, developing expertise in digital technology as the industry was transformed by convergence and interactivity. James received a Ph.D. in Mass Communications from the University of Iowa, and has lived, worked and taught in Europe, Asia and North America.
Andy Price
Assistant Director
Andy is the Assistant Director of the IDI. With a background in large scale web publishing in the newspaper industry and marketing services he joined the University over ten years ago becoming Principle Lecturer in New Media. Andy presently co-ordinates the Skillset Media Academy activity for the University, as well as leading developments in enterprise and employability across digital disciplines. His research interests include; hyper-local journalism, entrepreneurial journalism and innovative employer led pedagogy in the creative industries. Andy teaches on the BA Multimedia Journalism programme.
Steve Thompson
Community Engagement Cordinator
Steve has a background in the Music Industry having written songs for several International recording artists. Steve works with diverse groups to achieve digital inclusion through community media and develops and teaches Community and Social Media. He is involved in several research networks.

Creative Director
Mark is a creative technologist and senior lecturer in contemporary fine art practice.
Helen Ross
Industry Engagement Manager
Helen joined IDI in 2009 after working in film, TV and multimedia production for 15 years. Helen focuses on bid development and building strategic partnerships, working with innovative organisations across the globe.
Loday Gonpo
Creative Director
Loday has a diverse background in Post-Production, Digital Media and Audio Visuals. He has worked on many high profile projects for corporations including: BBC, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Sky, MTV and One Dot Zero and is currently Creative Director for the DigitalCity Fellowship Scheme.
Cheryl Evans
Project Manager
Cheryl Evans, Project Manager – manages the DigitalCity Fellowship scheme, including the application and mentoring processes, monitoring the outputs associated with the funding, reporting to funders and responsible for all aspects of audit.
Steven Rushby
Project Administrator
Steven has a background in graphic design, marketing and event planning. He works part-time as part of the IDI events team and also runs a creative design business.
Janet Flowers
Industry Engagement Co-ordinator
Janet is Industry Engagement Co-ordinator with the IDI. Providing marketing support mentoring and new product development to pre-start up businesses involved in the Fellowship scheme and associated business engagement activities.
Sammyjo Saunders
Project Administrator
Sammyjo takes care of all purchasing within the department, dealing with invoices and all travel and subsistence. Sammyjo also tracks staff holidays and absences as well as undertaking general admin duties.
Carmen Thompson
Industry Engagement Co-ordinator
Carmen works within the Industry Engagement Team to create opportunities to achieve multi-layered digital inclusion for all. With a strong background in education Carmen moved into the Creative Sector to source funds for and project-manage creative educational activities.
Jane Hutchinson
Conference & Events Manager
With a background in marketing and events organisation Jane manages all the IDI’s conferences and events. Please get in touch if there’s an event you’d like to see us do or a speaker you would like to hear.
Christine Wilson
Conference & Events Co-ordinator
Christine has been with the IDI since 2007 when she started working as PA to the directors, changing roles in 2009 to become Conference & Events Co-ordinator. Her work involves organising events such as Animex Pro, TEDxTeessideUniversity and Concept Film Night, producing the IDI newsletter and occasional events photography for the team.
Claire Leonard
Personal Assistant
Claire began working as an Administrator at the University in 2003, and has worked on ERDF funded projects in previous roles. Claire joined IDI in June 2009, and is currently studying a part time HNC in Computing.
Kylie Ainsley
Technician
Kylie is a member of the technical side of the project. She helps maintain the Fellowship computers whilst also providing IT support for the staff. Kylie also handles user accounts and supports the meeting rooms throughout the building
Michelle Tanner
Project Officer, Fellowships
Michelle works as part of the fellowships team assisting with fellowship recruitment and applications. Other duties include issuing contracts, administering payments, organising inductions, training, Show & Tell events and handover of projects.
